An Israeli businessman has escaped unharmed from his captors after being abducted in Ghana. Reports state that he was freed by Ghanaian security forces with the assistance of Israeli police. Further reports say he merely slipped away from his kidnappers in a taxi and then alerted the police.
The man was named by the Jerusalem Post as Dror Weinstein, a businessman in his 60s. His kidnappers had requested £300,000 to set him free. The ransom demand was later reduced to 18,000.
Reports of abductions are uncommon in Ghana in contrast to oil-rich Nigeria, where there have been hundreds of kidnappings in recent years. It is uncertain who the kidnappers were and why their victim was targeted.
